Rhinoplasty & Nose Jobs (Non-surgical)
Quick Facts: Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)
- Kiora's clinical director, Dr Grace Lin, helped pioneer the non-surgical rhinoplasty technique in Melbourne over 15 years ago
- The technique was first popularised in South Korea to lift the flat nose bridge without requiring a silicone implant
- Kiora's doctors have further developed the technique to straighten crooked noses, broken noses and nose bumps
- Dermal fillers can often achieve a more accurate result than surgery as the nose is gradually corrected over 2-3 visits
- Almost all problems normally treated with nose surgery can be addressed with advanced injection techniques
- The effect lasts for about 12 months and costs $1000
- Similar advanced techniques can be used to slim the face, enlarge the chin or enhance the cheeks.
- A Cosmetic Doctor or over 16 years experience performs all the injectable procedures at Kiora
- Uncompromising Safety: Ventilation exceeds WHO COVID recommendations for hospitals by 200%. All staff vaccinated
WHAT IS NON-SURGICAL RHINOPLASTY?
This was a technique first pioneered in Asia to strengthen the infamously flat chinese nose. Kiora's Cosmetic Doctors have a special interest in developing non-invasive techniques as alternatives to nose surgery. They have been pioneering and modifying these basic techniques for over eight years so that a wide range of nose problems can now be treated safely and quickly. They have adapted the original techniques so broken noses, crooked noses and flat noses can be enhanced to give a more balanced and proportional face. All non-surgical rhinoplasty procedures at Kiora are performed by one of our principle Cosmetic Doctors, Dr Grace Lin or Dr Neville Lee See. They have been with Kiora continuously since 2005 to give safer and more consistent outcomes.
WHY SHOULD MY NON-SURGICAL NOSE JOB BE PERFORMED BY A QUALIFIED DOCTOR AT KIORA?
In response to a number of rare, though critical and well publicised adverse cosmetic outcomes the Australian Medical Board Guidelines were changed on the 1st of October 2016. The law now requires all patients undergoing cosmetic procedures such as non-surgical rhinoplasty with dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections and non-surgical facelifts to be consulted personally (or via Skype) by a qualified Doctor. A nurse only consultation is illegal. The consulting Doctor takes full responsibility for the procedure and its outcome. At Kiora, to maximise safety and minimise the reaction time to unexpected events, all such procedures have alway been performed personally by an experienced and qualified Cosmetic Doctor. At Kiora patient safety and care is of paramount importance. We are proud we have always acted in the best interests of our patients and prioritised safety; preempting the Medical Board by over 10yrs.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Because the soft tissues around the nose cannot move the dermal filler is highly protected from the normal shearing forces that cause the filler to break down. Fillers tend to persist for a very long time in this area. On average the effect lasts for longer than 12 months and is very cost effective compared to surgery.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS LIKE COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL SURGERY?
Cosmetically the results are often better! Dermal fillers can be used to gradually correct and straighten the nose over 2 to 3 visits. Because the patient is awake and conscious the correction can be assessed accurately in all 3 dimensions whilst the patient is in their normal sitting position. This is preferably to treating an unconscious patient lying flat on a surgical bed. For particularly tricky problems the patient can even use a "mirror-technique" developed by Dr Lin so they can self-direct the correction in real time. To get the most accurate result Kiora's Doctors can gradually correct and improve the nose over 2-3 visits. Severe deformities of the nose and anatomical breathing problems are still best treated by traditional surgery but in over 15 years it is our experience mild-moderate nose deformities can often be corrected more accurately with dermal fillers than by traditional surgical rhinoplasty.
ADVANCED COSMETIC INJECTION TECHNIQUES
Non-invasive cosmetic techniques can be adapted to provide an alternative to cosmetic surgery in other areas. Both the chin and cheeks may be reshaped with dermal fillers to give a more balanced and pleasing look to the face. The face can be slimmed to give a more glamorous streamlined look. Even severe sweating (hyperhidrosis) can be reduced by 90%. The longevity of these techniques is excellent and often exceeds 12 months. It is the belief of our Doctors the outcome is often superior to traditional surgery.
WON'T ADDING DERMAL FILLERS MAKE MY NOSE LOOK BIGGER
No! Often noses can look large or disproportional because there is an obvious crookedness or bump to the nose. By precisely using fillers to straighten the profile of the nose the overall effect is to create a more proportional, more balanced nose. The end result can be a nose which appears smaller.
WHICH DERMAL FILLERS DO YOU USE IN THE NOSE?
Kiora uses dermal filler gels which are slightly harder and more structural than the ones normally used to enhance the lips. These fillers have a similar hardness to the nose cartilage, provide superior shape and last longer than some of the less specialised dermal fillers. Similar dermal fillers and advanced injection techniques can be used to create facial slimming, give a non-surgical facelift or enhance the cheeks.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty is one of the least painful procedures Kiora offers. Pain is well controlled by a combination of nerve blocks, advanced topical analgesic agents and the latest generation of dermal fillers which have a local anaesethetic included in the gel matrix. The filler itself numbs the area as it is injected.
CAN I DO THIS PROCEDURE IF I HAVE ALREADY HAD NOSE SURGERY
This is a procedure commonly used to correct nose surgery that has gone wrong. Dermal fillers can be used to soften obvious bumps and bulk up the soft tissues to disguise poorly placed cartilage or bone grafts. The procedure is more technically challenging and slightly riskier for ex-surgical patients and a full consultation with either Dr Grace Lin or Dr Neville Lee See is compulsory.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL I NEED OFF WORK?
Most people are able to return to work straight away. The entire procedure takes less than 20 minutes. Minor bruising is the primary risk. This can be easily covered by makeup. Mild swelling usually persists for 24-48 hours. Bad bruising is quite rare but if it does happens lasts about a week.
WHAT CAN'T IT DO?
The non-surgical rhinoplasty techniques can treat almost all of the same problems traditional nose surgery can. The profile of the nose can be straightened. Prominent bony bumps can be softened. And the bridges of flat noses can be lifted to give a sharper more defined profile. Dr Grace Lin and Dr Neville Lee See have even adapted the techniques to subtlety lift the tip of the nose and shrink the size of the nostrils. They have both been with Kiora continuously since 2005 to give a safer and more consistent outcome.
