WHAT IS LIP ENHANCEMENT?  

Lip enhancement uses a variety of injectable dermal fillers to plump and define the lips to give beautiful, natural and healthy looking lips. Our Cosmetic Doctors have nearly 20 years experience in achieving a healthy, natural look by adding definition to the lip borders, enhancing the cupid's bow and gently plumping the lip body. All patients are seen personally by one of our two principle Cosmetic Doctors, Dr Grace Lin or Dr Neville Lee See. Dr Grace Lin has a special interest in using advanced techniques to create glamorous lips naturally matched to a patients features. She is recognised for her experience and care throughout Australia and is popular amongst professional performers. WHO IS SUITABLE FOR LIP ENHANCEMENT? 

People of all ages are suitable for this procedure. Younger patients often prefer the filler to be placed into the lip border to give a sharper more defined smile. Particular emphasis is placed upon enhancing the cupid's bow and ensuring the ratio of lower lip to upper lip is in the golden ratio of 1.67:1. This gives the most pleasing and natural looking lips. As patients age they tend to lose volume from the lips resulting in a thin smile and fine lines (rhytids) which make it difficult to apply lipstick smoothly. Filler injections allow us to restore this lost volume creating a healthy, natural looking lips.

HOW DO DERMAL FILLERS WORK?  

Dermal Fillers are delivered under the skin surface with a very fine needle. Once injected, the gel plumps and lifts the skin gently to replace collagen loss caused by the natural aging process. Movement and sensation are not affected – your lips and skin will look and feel soft and natural. Dermal Fillers are extremely safe and versatile. They can be used to achieve natural enhancement of lips, correct wrinkles and restore smoothness and volume to the skin. The result is instantaneous and lasts around 6 to 12 months. Most clients are able to return to work immediately after their treatment.

WILL IT LOOK NATURAL?

Dolly Parton said it best, "it takes a lot of money to look that cheap." To achieve huge, overlarge lips takes an excessive amount of filler. IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL? 

Kiora's Cosmetic Physicians' are fully qualified and are proficient in wide variety of Doctor-only prescribed medications & techniques to ensure you get the most comfortable procedure possible. Our Doctor's use an advanced 2nd generation filler specifically designed for the lips. It is softer, has better longevity in the lips and has pain relief anaesthetic incorporated into the gel matrix. This provides excellent pain relief as the gel is injected. Our doctors are experienced in doing regional nerve blocks necessary to block all pain sensations to the lip area and can use analgesic gas. Good pain relief is essential as it minimises the risk of bruising and enables a more accurate placement of the dermal fillers into the lips.

WHY DID MY LIP ENHANCEMENT ONLY LAST A FEW MONTHS?

Most importantly good, accurate injection technique into the correct plane (depth) of the lip will enhance longevity. The filler should be precisely placed to enhance the overall shape of the lip and cupids bow with multiple finely placed injections. The overal volume of the lip is then enhanced by accurately placing the filler just above the muscular layer halfway between the wet and dry vermillion border of the lip. Getting a good accurate result requires experience and excellent dexterity. The second generation of modern Dermal fillers with a higher proportion of cross-linking typically last longer than older and cheaper fillers. Using a larger volume of dermal filler can enhance longevity as well.

WHY SHOULD MY LIP ENHANCEMENT BE PERFORMED BY A QUALIFIED DOCTOR AT KIORA?

In response to a number of tragic and well publicised adverse cosmetic outcomes the Australian Medical Board Guidelines were changed on the 1st of October 2016. The law now requires all patients undergoing cosmetic procedures such as lip enhancement and anti-wrinkle injections to be consulted personally by a qualified Doctor. A nurse-only consultation is illegal. At Kiora, to maximise safety and minimise the reaction time to unexpected events, all such procedures have always been performed personally by an experienced and qualified Cosmetic Doctor. We are proud we have always acted in the best interests of our patients and prioritised safety; preempting the Medical Board by over 10yrs.

WILL I HAVE LUMPS FROM MY LIP ENHANCEMENT PROCEDURE?

No. With accurate, precise technique lumps should not occur. Kiora's Doctors generally prefer a technique using fine threads of microtubules placed precisely into the correct deep plane of the lip. These threads are precisely placed to follow the natural contours of the lips and create a smooth natural look. Our Doctors do not like placing small boluses (Lumps) into the lips to enlargen them. A very soft, yet long lasting filler specially designed for the lips is used to minimise the chance of lumps forming. There should be no need for a patient to mold out the lumps themselves. Rarely, the filler may sometimes move within the lip a few days after the procedure and form a lump. Our Doctors have the ability to correct these lumps caused by excessive movement by using a special medication to dissolve the filler.
