Acne, or Acne vulgaris, is a medical skin condition that can affect males and females of all ages - not just adolescents. There is a common misconception Acne is an natural fact of life and there is little that can be done to treat it. This is not true. The pathophysiology of Acne is well understood and the Cosmetic Doctors at Kiora have a wide variety of techniques, medications and advanced laser treatments t o both reduce the incidence of acne and repair the damage acne causes to the skin.
LIGHT BASED THERAPY OF ACTIVE ACNE
Active Acne can be treated with a variety of topical or oral medications. As one of Melbourne's most advanced Cosmetic Medical Centre Kiora offers a comprehensive range of treatment modalities to treat this curable medical condition. Kiora offers blue light Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments as an alternative to strong medications for the treatment of active acne. The blue light IPL uses light of the 420nm wavelength to actively target the porphyrins produced by Propionobacterium Acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne. This selectively destroys the causative bacteria leaving the rest of the skin intact. The reduced bacterial load can result in a dramatically improved appearance. The treatment is not suitable for everyone though and a consultation is recommended to see if you are a patient whom this treatment might be suitable for.
