WHAT CAN IT DO? A bright, white smile is associated with youth and health and has been popularised in Western Culture and in recent times by Hollywood. As a person ages the adult teeth often darken. This darkening is due to staining accumulated from years of exposure to foodstuffs such as coffee, chocolate, tobacco and bacterial pigments. Teeth Whitening at Kiora helps to remove these stains. It is a complete two stage process. Firstly, Laser Teeth Whitening – Express is performed in office to immediately brighten the teeth by up to 10 shades, then the process is continued at home with 7-day Medical Grade Teeth Whitening course to further enhance and even up the whitening process.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR? Teeth Whitening is suitable for people of all ages. Older clients find an immediate benefit because a bright, white smile is often subconsciously associated with youth. Teeth Whitening is especially popular amongst our younger clients and is one of the most dramatic changes a person can make to their appearance. The teeth are highly visible in almost every social situation from speaking at that vital interview to Sunday brunch with your friends.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Both procedures at Kiora rely on hydrogen peroxide to lighten the shade of the tooth. During the teeth whitening process, the Hydrogen Peroxide is activated and oxygen enters the tooth enamel oxidising the embedded discoloured substances, destroying the stain and lightening your teeth. The structure of the tooth is not changed; only the tooth enamel becomes a brighter and whiter shade. Fillings, crowns, bridges and bondings, etc. are not affected. We recommend that in the immediate 48 hour period after teeth whitening, no foods that could potentially restain the teeth should be eaten.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? The teeth remain white for many years after treatment. However, the teeth will gradually darken over time as you eat foods which re-stain your teeth. Most people do not require treatment again for 5-10 years. Laser Teeth Whitening only needs to be done every 10 years.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS? Many people experience mild tooth sensitivity after bleaching. This can be reduced with a prescription fluoride gel or simple over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatories but most people don't need it. The sensitivity usually goes away within a few days after whitening is complete. In addition, the gums or other soft tissues in the mouth may be temporarily irritated by the bleaching solution.
