WHY SHOULD MY LASER PROCEDURES BE SUPERVISED BY A SPECIALIST COSMETIC DOCTOR? Kiora's commitment to quality and safety has seen us become one of the largest Laser Clinics in Australia - with over 5 different laser and IPL systems. For the best and safest hair reduction results the treatment protocol must be individualised for each patient. For these reasons all Laser Consultations at Kiora are done personally by one of our fully qualified Cosmetic Doctors - never by a beauty therapist or "laser specialist". Kiora's Doctors are careful to select the laser system and treatment plan which will ensure you get the best possible result with the least number of sessions. It enables us to remove the maximum amount of hair for the least possible cost to our patients. With an outstanding safety record accumulated in performing over 1500 procedures, and a success rate greater than 93%, our experienced Cosmetic Doctors can give you the best possible chance of achieving smooth, hair free skin.
DOES IT HURT? Compared to older laser or IPL systems Kiora's Soprano XL enables hair reduction which is virtually pain free. Most other sytems deliver a sharp burst of energy once every 2 seconds. Our system can rapidly fire a more gentle pulse 10 times every second - allowing us to heat up the follicle more gently and smoothly. Older systems can feel like you are been flicked with a strong rubber band. In comparison our Laser Procedures feels more like a hot stone massage. No anaesthetic cream is required and the cryogen cooled laser head means the skin is kept cool and protected throughout the treatment.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRUE LASER HAIR REDUCTION AND IPL SYSTEMS IPL and SPL light sources are common systems used for hair reduction. They use a bright white xenon bulb and colour filters to emit a broad range of lights. They can be a simpler and more cost effective way to get hair reduction for ideal (white) skin types. True lasers tend be more powerful and more specific - they emit a single wavelength of coherent light. Lasers can offer more selective heating of hair follicles, resulting in a significantly safer and more comfortable treatment for more skin types. Kiora owns and operates both hair reduction systems and can help select the best system for different patient types.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Laser Hair Removal relies on the principle of selective absorption. A specific wavelength of light is tuned to target your hair and not your skin. Our Laser emits a pulse of red laser light of 810nm wavelength. This is the wavelength of light maximally absorbed by the pigment in your hair follicle. The dark hair follicle will be selectively heated and destroyed. Only hair follicles in the growing phase (about 30%) will be affected, meaning most people will require a minimum of 5 treatments, scheduled 6-10 weeks apart to achieve permanent hair reduction. Most lasers are only capable of sharply firing once every two seconds. Kiora's laser system utilises patented technology to allow the laser to fire 10 times every second. This allows our Cosmetic Doctors to choose a safer and less painful power setting whilst still delivering enough energy to cause significant thermal damage to the hair follicle. The end result is Kiora can offer our patients better, faster and safer results.
WHAT CAN LASER HAIR REDUCTION DO FOR ME? All areas of the body can be treated with Laser Hair Reduction to achieve smooth, hair free skin. It is a far less painful alternative to waxing and has the added benefit of reducing the hair follicles in an area - meaning ingrown hairs and itchy re-growth are things of the past. Not only is this quick procedure virtually painless, it makes economic sense too! Removal of hair from the private areas, such as the male buttocks or female brazilian, is popular. All female patients are all seen by our female Cosmetic Doctors whilst Male Laser Hair Reduction is done by our male Cosmetic Doctors.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS? Laser Hair Removal is not a risk free procedure: poor technique, poor patient selection and poor quality laser systems can lead to permanent pigmentation changes of the skin, destruction of pigment cells, blistering and burns. To deliver the safest and best possible results Kiora is uncompromising on quality. At Kiora all Laser Hair Removal is under the direct supervision of our fully qualified Cosmetic Doctors. Since a significant percentage of patients are unsuitable for the procedure each patient undergoes a comprehensive dermal consultation to discuss the health of their skin and their suitability for the procedure. Our commitment to safety and quality extends to our equipment. Kiora is one of only two clinics in Melbourne to invest in a system with class leading safety - the Soprano XL This advanced rapid pulsing sapphire laser enables Kiora to be one of only a few clinics in Australia able to safely treat most skin types – from subcontinental Indians to Scandinavians.
WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR? Hair Reduction is not for everyone. Certain skin types are more difficult to treat. Dark skinned people are less suitable for laser hair reduction and require lengthier treatment courses. The melanin that makes their skin darkly pigmented competes for the laser light and makes selective absorption by the hair follicle more difficult. Likewise natural red-haired persons can be difficult to treat. They have little melanin in their hair for the light to target. In general most skin types including Caucasian, Mediterranean and Asian are suitable for Laser Hair Reduction. An assessment of your skin type by a Cosmetic Doctor is recommended before deciding on a treatment course. You might expect to pay a big premium for our medical expetise, but you'll be pleasantly surprised that our prices compare favourably to our competitors. Ultimately many of our patients have found getting their Laser Hair Reduction done by our Cosmetic Doctors to be more sustainable in the long run.
